Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (November 8, 2024) – Canadian Advanced Air Mobility (CAAM) proudly announces its support for H2CANFLY, Canada’s newly launched federal not-for-profit national consortium dedicated to advancing hydrogen aviation. Officially unveiled at the 2024 Canadian Aerospace Summit, H2CANFLY is poised to redefine the future of sustainable aviation by accelerating the commercialization of hydrogen-based technologies.

H2CanFly, supported by a strong coalition of aerospace leaders including Airbus, CAE, and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), aims to accelerate the commercialization of hydrogen and electrification technologies. These innovations are critical to reducing aviation’s environmental impact, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring Canada remains at the forefront of sustainable aviation solutions. The initiative is backed by key partners such as Redrock Power Systems, Tronosjet, and Unither Bioelectronics, and is committed to fostering collaboration across industry, academia, and government to meet Canada’s ambitious net-zero objectives.

JR Hammond, Executive Director of CAAM, emphasized the strategic alignment between the two organizations, stating, “Canada has an incredible opportunity to lead in sustainable aviation. Through H2CanFly, we’re unlocking the potential of hydrogen technology and pushing forward a shared vision for cleaner skies and stronger, more resilient Canadian aviation infrastructure. Together, CAAM and H2CanFly are creating the foundation for a more sustainable and connected future that benefits all Canadians.

H2CanFly will launch a multi-phase, multi-objective flagship aircraft project that focuses on developing and advancing non-conventional hydrogen and electrification solutions. The consortium will also establish essential infrastructure and certification pathways to ensure Canadian airports are equipped for hydrogen-powered flights, paving the way for new aircraft capabilities that significantly reduce operational emissions.

This innovative initiative extends beyond aviation, with a multi-modal approach that can benefit other transportation sectors such as rail, marine, and heavy-duty trucking. This ambitious scope underscores H2CanFly’s vision of sustainable growth and cross-sector impact, bringing practical applications that support Canada’s net-zero goals across the transportation industry.
